Holding trades over the weekend at a prop firm

Holding over the weekend is a rule about the Sunday open. The market can reopen far from Friday’s close, and a firm that cannot hedge that gap on a funded account often asks you to be flat by Friday. Firms state it in three ways, and it usually changes between the evaluation and the funded account.

What the rule is

A weekend holding rule says whether a position may stay open from the Friday close to the Sunday open. Where it is restricted, the firm names a cut-off (a time on Friday, in its own clock) and what happens to a trade still open then: closed by the firm, or counted as a breach.

  • Allowed: nothing changes at the Friday close.
  • Evaluation allowed, funded restricted: the common shape. The funded account must be flat by the cut-off.
  • A separate "swing" program: weekend holding allowed on a plan sold for it, usually with other terms.

What the Sunday gap does to a floor

The daily floor does not move over the weekend, and the reset that follows the Friday session sets it from your balance then. A position that opens on Sunday $300 against you on a $10,000 two-step account has used $300 of a $600 daily allowance before the first Monday tick you can react to. The floating-risk cap ($200 on that account) is measured on the first tick too.

Formula

room on Monday open = Friday balance − floor − |Sunday gap × position size|

Our rule

The rule

Holding over the weekend is allowed on every plan and every size, evaluation and funded. Saturday and Sunday add no trading days toward the minimum of 3. Hold a position from Friday into Monday and nothing changes but the calendar; the drawdown floors and the floating-risk cap apply to the Sunday open as to any other tick.

Questions

What traders ask about weekend holding.

At most firms yes during the evaluation; several restrict it on the funded account. We allow it on every plan and every stage.

No. A trading day is a day on which you open at least one trade, and the market is closed on Saturday and Sunday. A position held through the weekend adds no days.

The gap counts from the first tick. If it takes equity through the daily or total floor, the account is breached before you can act, at any firm that lets you hold. Size a weekend position to the floor, not to the stop.
